Seaport Economic Council “Grand Challenge”

Gloucester Innovation and our partner, the Lobster Foundation of Massachusetts, are pleased to announce our selection for one of the first grants by the Seaport Economic Council of Massachusetts as part of their “Grand Challenge” program. The Baker-Polito Administration announced the winners of the inaugural Seaport Economic Council Grand Challenge on October 9, 2018,awarding over $450,000 in grants to three organizations that will deploy Internet of Things, or ‘IoT’, technologies to boost economic development in the state’s marine economy. Our LobsterNet project will develop and deploy a low-cost, IoT-enabled network of environmental sensors (“ePods”) attached to lobster pots that can collect and distribute key environmental data relevant to the industry’s needs. Other partners for this project include SigFox, an IoT network provider;the UMassGloucester Marine Station; and the Angle Center for Entrepreneurship at Endicott College.
