A Sonic Symphony

Gloucester Innovation was pleased to present its high definition, surround-sound composition of sounds of the sea at the screening of the film “Sonic Sea” presented at the Shalin Liu Performance Center in Rockport, MA and hosted by our partner Maritime Gloucester. We were also proud to sponsor tickets to the event for students and faculty of Gloucester High School. See the details below.

On Thursday, October 6th from 6:30 to 8:30 PM, Maritime Gloucester is hosting a screening of the award-winning documentary Sonic Sea at Rockport Music’s Shalin Liu Performance Center. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by Dr. Leila Hatch, marine ecologist at Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary and cast member and panelists Dr. Scott Kraus, Vice President and Senior Advisor, Anderson Cabot Center for Ocean Life, New England Aquarium and Dr. Kathleen Vigness Raposa, Director of Environmental Services, Marine Acoustics, Inc. In addition, Gloucester Innovation’s Tom Stephenson will air a compendium of undersea recordings collected directly from some of the ocean sensing devices it is developing as well as whale and fish sounds recorded around the world by Gloucester-based Ocean Alliance and others to allow the audience to experience the diversity and intensity of the sounds in our seas. You can experience this composition by viewing the video below.
